The people of Road America 2014 A mid-summer favorite, The HAWK with Brian Redman is one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States and features over 400 cars competing in several groups. Elkhart Lake Wisconsin A hidden gem. Elkhart lake is more than a beautiful lakeside vacation spot in Wisconsin. Lakeside resorts welcome you for a delightful family vacation or romantic getaway. Elkhart Lake is just far enough away to be away from the crazy city life with a small town feel. It is located one hour north of Milwaukee and two and a half hours from Chicago. I recommend this town for any wedding event. I have been going to Road America in Elkhart Lake for seven years. The town is breathtakingly beautiful and charming. Not only is the town beautiful but the people are the nicest! I decided to document some of the towns finest --My friends and co- photographer, Nyssa checked out Elkhart Lake when we went to Road America and documented our favorite spots. Places to see in Elkhart Lake- Off the Rail A cute Cafe that is hard to miss when you first come to Elkhart Lake. It is a cafe by the railroad tracks that has a great family-friendly atmosphere and they seem to always be full of people. They have delicious breakfast, lunch, specialty coffee and tea drinks, wine and beer, deli, catering and homemade baked goods. Elkhart's original railroad depot … oh yeah and of course they have free wireless. Sissy’s Ice Cream & Coffee Shoppe If you come to Elkhart Lake in the summer, you will have to stop at Sissy’s Ice Cream & Coffee Shoppe. It is a small shed like shop in front of Siebken’s patio. Don’t let the size fool you, it is the best ice cream in the town. They serve Weeden Creek organic coffees, baked goods, beverages and Wisconsin’s own Cedar Crest ice cream. Open daily Memorial Day through Labor Day so be sure to stop by in the summer!! The staff is super friendly! Jordan helped us pick out our ice cream and she was so sweet. (no pun intended) Siebkens Tavern The famous and historic tavern- Siebkins. The Tavern that has no A/C to keep it original. It is family-friendly dining with Indoor, Sun Porch or Outdoor Deck seating for lunch or dinner. Diners can enjoy a gourmet selection of appetizers, homemade soups, salads, burgers, wraps and delicious entrees prepared with premium ingredients. This place is Elkhart Lake’s best kept secret. Imbibe and dine in style. The Cocktail Bar, located off The Main Dining Room, has been the gathering place for famous racecar drivers and local and international celebrities for decades. Serving drinks specials, wines by the glass and appetizers. We come here for drinks and sandwiches every time we visit. It can get crowded during an event but there is always a great seat and sometimes you see someone famous! Farmers market and Art show “There’s something for everyone at this popular open-air market held every Saturday from 8:30 am-12:30 pm, rain or shine, in downtown Elkhart Lake. Beginning the first Saturday in June and continuing through mid-October, residents and visitors are treated to the appetizing sites and smells of a variety of fresh produce and baked goods. Included are vendors who carry certified organic produce and those who are WIC approved. Unique collectibles are also available for interested shoppers as well as creative pieces offered by area artisans.” We got a chance to meet these lovely artists Marie and Lynn. Nicola’s Gift Cottage The cutest shop in the town! Home décor, gifts, accessories, and gourmet food. We got lost in the store looking at all the cute things it had. Nicola herself was behind the counter (wearing the cutest skirt!) chatting away with all of her guests. The shop gave warm feeling like you were visiting a friend and not like you were shopping-- quite a change of scene from Minneapolis. If you want to get a souvenir or a gift when you go to Elkhart Lake-- this is the place to stop! Vintage Elkhart Lake An aesthetically pleasing shop-- Not to mention huge! They sell Wine, cheese, olive oil, chocolate, gelato, gifts, and craft beers. It is the best place for your mouth and eyes to be happy. The owner Jaclyn helped me pick out a cigar and it was spot on what I liked. I highly recommend stopping in here even if you are just passing through Elkhart Lake. We were very impressed. The average person generates 4.3 pounds of waste per day. This is 1.6 pounds more than most produced back in 1960. I would like to talk briefly about trash. We make so much garbage rubbish waste litter junk scrap or whatever you call it. Some things like packaging are hard to eliminate because they are necessary for sanitary reasons. One thing that each of us can easily do to change how much waste we make is EASY. We waste SOooOOOoOoO much garbage on cups! We drink out of plastic cups so often and just throw them right after we are done. It's simply mad how much we waste in cups alone. An easy fix that you can do is to invest in two cups... only TWO... that you can take with you on the go. One for hot drinks and one for cold. Take your cups with you everywhere and have your coffee shop fill your cup-- whip out your cup at the bank when you see free coffee. Fill your cup up before you go on a road trip or to work… don’t waste your money buying water in the plastic bottles! By doing this, you alone would eliminate so much garbage! The best drinking vessels are glass -- better for you and better for the environment. I personally carry these two… One for hot tea/coffee and one for water. |
