Bryant Lake Bowl has an awesome stage and great shows-- I got to hang out with Bob and Kirstin while they practiced their dance routine.
Bryant- Lake Bowl is also a great venue for Weddings-- especially if their first date was there! Bob and Kirstin-- Bob Eisen and Kristin Van Loon have been friends and colleagues since the late 90's. They are both dancers/choreographers, existing in the relatively small world of modern, some would say postmodern, dance. Bob for many years lived in Chicago, where he was an active and prominent member of that city's performing arts community, before moving to New York in the year 2000, and for the past six years living part time in Russia. Kristin has been involved in the Minneapolis dance community for many years, most prominently as one half of the well known dance collective HIJACK, but also as a dancer, teacher and curator of the on going performance series at Bryant Lake Bowl. Over these years Bob has been a regular visitor to Minneapolis, performing many times at the 9x22 dance series at BLB, Patrick's Cabaret, Balls, and other performance venues. In the summer of 2013 Bob created a duet in Russia with a Russian dancer. He then recreated this duet with a New York dancer in early 2014, presenting this version in New York in March. In April and May he traveled to Chicago where he worked with a Chicago dancer on a re-recreation of the duet that was presented at Links Hall Studio, a performance venue of which Bob was a co-founder long ago, in 1979. Given Bob's history of performing and presenting his work in Minneapolis, it only made sense that the re-re-recreation of this duet take place there, and, given the mutual respect they have for each other's work and their common artistic sensibility, that he and Kristin work together on this project. Kristin thankfully agreed, arrangements were made, a rehearsal schedule organized, and Bob and Kristin presented this version of the duet, titled "Offering Fourth", at the 9x22 series at BLB on Wednesday, July 23. The work was enthusiastically received and it was very much an enriching experience for both of them.
